St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School
Clovis Canopies drew on its 45 years of craftsmanship expertise and experience to design, manufacture and install a stunning curved canopy at St Gregory’s Primary School in Ealing.
The project tasked Clovis with building a bespoke 170m2 canopy that would fit seamlessly to the school’s new curved extension, a testing technical challenge that was further complicated by the fact that the building was far from complete and only a limited number of drawings were available.
Once the precision design and manufacturing stages were complete, Clovis carried out the installation in just 10 days during term-time without disruption to the school.
The school now uses the space underneath the mono-pitched Keston Lean-to canopy for additional play and dining areas for Key Stage 1 pupils.
Lawson King, Contract Manager for Clovis Canopies, said: “This was one of those projects that had no margin for error because there were limited drawings to work from and we had to do a lot of the design work ourselves. It was up to us to interpret the design brief to ensure we came up with something which worked in the real world.
“It came together superbly, proving yet again our ability to provide a bespoke solution to a customer’s requirements.”
Principal contractor Life Build appointed Clovis to design, manufacture and install the canopy which extends 4.7m from the building and features 6.4mm laminated, patent glazed roof.
Lawson King added: “There were lots of issues to overcome, with the canopy having to be glazed in such a way to ensure everything worked along a curved building and ensure rainwater goods were fabricated to suit. But as a company, we’ve shown time and again we are able to tailor our designs to a range of outdoor canopies and shelters in an array of locations.”

Frequently Asked Questions
- What are Building Regulations and will they affect me?
-
In relation to our canopies Building Regulations specify the standard to which they should be built i.e. strength, fire rating of materials etc. Again it is advisable to contact your local Building Control officer(s), as a rule of thumb any canopy over 30m2 will require conformity to building regulations and an application will need to be made although this figure can be lower. Most of our structures are supplied conforming to the requirements for these regulations as standard and generic sets of structural calculations can be supplied free of charge to demonstrate to Building Control the integrity of the proposed structure and foundations.
- What colour can the framework be?
-
Each canopy framework is supplied in the colour of choice from the standard RAL range. A match for most school colour schemes can be found with that range if required.
